Therapy Groups

The Centre for Mental Health Research and Treatment (CMHRT) at the University of Waterloo currently offers therapy groups for different populations.

Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) Group

The CMHRT Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) group for adults with eating disorders is 12 weeks long, with weekly 2-hour group sessions. Fees for compassion-focused therapy group are on a sliding fee scale. All sessions are offered in-person only.

This group is currently OPEN for registration, and accepting referrals at this time. Please click the link below for more information and to sign up to be added to the group starting September 24th running weekly on Wednesdays 6:30 to 8:00pm. Please note that spaces are limited.

Facing Fears Together (FFT) Group

For teens, ages 13 to 17, experiencing anxiety. This Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) group, called Facing Fears Together (FFT), is a 6-week long program, with a follow-up booster session. This group is typically offered in the spring. Fees for Facing Fears Together (FFT) are on a sliding fee scale.

This group is currently running and closed. The next FFT group will likely run in Spring 2026.

Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD) Group

For adults with social anxiety. This is a 12-week imagery-based Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) group program, with a follow-up session one month after the program ends. Fees for Social Anxiety Group are on a sliding fee scale. All sessions are offered in person only.

NOTE: This group is not accepting referrals at this time. We are hopeful that the next group will run sometime in Fall 2026. Please check back to this website for updates on when the next group will be offered.

Triple P Postive Parenting Program - Parents of Teens

The CMHRT Triple P Teen Positive Parenting Program (PPP) group for parents of teenagers ages 11 to 16, seeking strategies to manage challenging tween and teen behaviours, wanting to learn new ideas, to reduce parenting stress, or to feel more confident in their parenting. The Teen Triple P Positive Parenting program is 8 weeks long, with 2 individual virtual sessions. Fees for this group can be accessed through the information letter link below. All sessions are offered in-person only.

This group is set to run from Sept 18, 2025 to Nov 13, 2025, on Thursdays from 6:00 – 7:00 pm. Interested parents are invited to complete the PPP Intake Information Form.Spaces fill up quickly, so please refer potential clients ASAP. The screening process begins in June 2025 and continues until the group is filled. Participants must be able to commit in advance to attending therapy sessions at the stated times and dates.

For parents of children ages 3 to 11. This Child Triple P Positive Parenting program is 8 weeks long
